Samuels Stays Focused: Navigating Online Criticism with Grace and Resilience
Ailava Samuels, the young Fijian beauty queen, exudes composure and determination in the face of online criticism following her selection to represent Fiji at the upcoming Miss Pacific Islands Pageant. Despite the challenges, she remains steadfast, focusing on her journey and cherishing the unwavering support from her family, team, and the pageant committee.
"Emotions run high, and opinions vary, but that's the beauty of free expression," Samuels shares. "As a young woman, I won't pretend it's a walk in the park. Yet, with the incredible support I've received, I feel empowered and at peace."
Samuels acknowledges the emotional nature of public reactions in Fiji, attributing it to the Fijian spirit. "We Fijians express ourselves passionately, and that's okay," she says. "However, the way we convey our emotions and make our points needs improvement."
She draws inspiration from reigning Miss Pacific Islands, Litara Loma Leilani Ieremia-Allan of Samoa, who encouraged her to embrace loyalty as a core Pacific value. "The positive support from my family and supporters drowns out any negativity I encounter," Samuels explains. "I feel encouraged and empowered to make the best choices, and I'm honored to have this opportunity."
The Miss Pacific Islands Pageant will take place in Fiji, at Prince Charles Park in Nadi, from February 13th to 20th. Samuels' journey serves as a testament to resilience and the power of community support, inspiring others to navigate challenges with grace and determination.
